Sumario: | Our intent here is to contribute to the theoretical construction of the concepts referred by the phrase “responsible citizen participation”, in as far an object of study related to sustainable development. We argue that a mínimum of citizen responsibility is a required to be able to demand social responsibility from business; together, citizen responsibility and business social responsibility conform the only solid base from which it is possible to achive a social impact on the design and construction of public policies aimed at increaing common good, thus breaking with the developmentalist paradigm and the stale deals in the dark which still today continue to define general interest behind society, because this is why representative traditional political power has exhausted its possibilities to orient the economy and therefore, its credibility has
vanished. We summarize the ideas contibuted by the business world, which have permeated through society and social structures to potentiate the necessary change in the ethics of the man out on the street that will make ecological economy viable. Lastly, we provide an example of the potential of intitutionalized citizen responsibility to assist the transit of society towards these ends, as suggested by the incipient experience of the Urban Observatory of Orizaba. |
