Sumario:Aim: Compare the modified papilla preservation technique (MPPT) (1) and the simplified papilla preservation flap (SPPF) (2) with the intrasulcular (IS) (3) design, in access flaps as procedures for resolving suprabony periodontal pockets. Material and Methods: Seventeen subjects with supraalveolar- type defects were randomly assigned to a test group, to intervene with preservation techniques (SPPF o MPPT as appropriate) and a control group to intervene with the intrasulcular design. 12 sites was operated with MPPT, 13 with SPPF and 23 with IS. Probing depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL) and Gingival recession (GR) were evaluated at baseline and after 6 and 9 months. Conclusions: The data suggest a significant clinical benefit in the stability of the tissues, the resolution of the periodontal pocket and CAL gain, with the application of the preservation techniques versus the intrasulcular design, during surgical treatment of periodontitis of supra-alveolar pockets.
