| Sumario: | During centuries, irrational exploitation of the natural resources existent in the Cauto river basin, the most important in Cuba, together with climatic features, have been taking up life to over their nine thousand six hundred square kilometers. In the territory of the Cauto basin, it can be proved that agriculture controls the use of soil in the flooded plain of the Cauto river and woods vegetation usually increases rainfall. Due to these conditions and for being an important scenario within the national geography, important environmental, management and flood diagnosis assessments have been developed since it is one of the hydrologic processes with greatest danger for human activities.
That’s why in flooding assessment, several approximations are used, based in the determination of factors influencing environment instability, characterized by conditioning factors maps which are combined to define thedifferent susceptibility levels, obtaining as a result the flooding susceptibility map. The applied investigation methodology is based on a Geographic Information System(GIS), in which the information of all the conditioningfactors that influence on the flooding susceptibility in the Cauto river basin (Granma Province Sector) is made up. The conditioning factors used in the research are rainfall, slope angle, hypsometry, litology, soil uses and soil types.
