Sumario:Cities are one of the biggest degradation of the environment today, so urban planning should focus on developing tools that improve the quality of life of the inhabitants and optimize the use of natural resources. One of the tools developed to assess and plan cities are urban sustainability indicators. These are quantitative and qualitative variables that reflect the reality of the sectors analyzed and are aimed at improving the existing urban network. Most of them aim to promote compact, complex, socially cohesive and efficient cities. However, the implementation of them without a proper analysis of local characteristics can lead to incorrect improvement proposals. Therefore, developing reference values specific to each city is a fundamental task, often such a procedure requires complex studies and / or costs. The incorporation of ICT tools in the development of local indicators would facilitate this work. Virtual Reality (VR) is one of the new resources that ICTs offer us for the visualization of digital models, this possibility, in the case of developing urban indicators, allows to generate virtually complex environments focusing all efforts on representing exclusively sensitive models to the analysis and the concrete perception on the same one to evaluate the behaviors of the population and the consumption of natural resources of the expected results of diverse urban plans for a same sector or city. In this framework, the research aims to contribute to the field of sustainable urban development by developing a methodological tool that allows for diagnoses and to determine reference values for urban sustainability indicators that contemplate local social aspects through the incorporation of virtual reality technologies.
