he two novels chosen for a future edition are, most likely, the most characteristic of Latin American literary Modernism. On the other hand, the absence of revised, annotated and commented editions of the novels proposed, both in paper and electronic format, is a major problem for the university student, for the teacher and for the researcher. With respect to De Sobremesa, we know that in the Complete Work of the author, edited by Ayacucho, Caracas, in ..., the first two editions of Cronos (1908 and 1918) were collated with that of the Bank of the Republic of Colombia, made by Camilo de Brigard Silva (1946) and from here arose the revised text of Ayacucho. However, the insurmountable problem for the editions of Silva is that the poet published only a handful of poems in life and, in addition, most of the manuscripts of his works were lost in the shipwreck of the ship that brought him to Colombia in 1895.Like many of his poems, De Sobremesa was published posthumously by a group of friends and, as it is known that Silva had not managed to correct it, a fact that is noticed in several moments of the narrative, the first editors did not touch the text, not even to correct the score, which was regulated by Ayacucho.Sangre Patricia is already revised and collated with his manuscript in the Complete Work of the author by the Venezuelan Academy of the Language in 1964 and then the Ayacucho publishing house reproduces that text in 1982. (Manuel Díaz Rodríguez, Patrician Blood, in Narrative and Essay , Caracas, Ayacucho Library, 1982, pp. 193-194). However, we have noticed that the editions found in our medium are scarce and deficient: without annotations, without a complete preliminary study and with numerous errata. This project proposes to make two revised editions, prologues and annotated for the academic public. Both Sangre Patricia and De sobremesa are canonical novels of modernism and as such, represent much of the expression of the Spanish-American narrative of the late s. XIX. |
