Sumario: | Generally, the dynamic response of structures under extreme loadings defines the structural design, particularly of the most important structures. At present, the designer of structures should take into account these extreme loadings, like explosions and earthquakes, at the design stage. Such extreme loadings define the structural typology and materials to be used. Then, a realistic definition of loadings, the determination of effects of dynamic loadings over structures and soils and a good simulation of the behavior of materials, significantly influence the economy and safety of structures. Other important aspect that influences the structural design is the addition of new technologies like control of vibration systems. On the other hand, structural damage of any kind produces a change in the dynamic properties, like shape modes and natural frequencies.In the case of explosions, the terrorist attacks all over the world and also in Argentina, that produced serious injuries and damages show that, at present, the designer need take into account loadings from attacks and accidents, inclusive in case of civilian structures. In connection with seismic loadings, considering that Argentina have an 83% of surface located in seismic risk zones, it is clear the importance of such loadings. Finally, the proposal of reinforcing techniques and the design of control of vibration devices decreases the collapse probability of damaged or defective structures.This project has as main objective the determination of the response of structures and soils subjected to extreme loadings and the proposal of methods of evaluation and mitigation of structural damage produced by them. The project is formed by the following research lines:a) Extreme loadings and structural responseb) Structural damagec) Control of vibration and structural reinforcingThe methodology will be theoretical-numerical-experimental. For one side, numerical models will be developed, which will be validated by using experimental tests on shaking table on scale models, and actual structures. |
