Sumario:eriodontal disease (PD) is a major problem of global public health, as it is one of the most widespread conditions, and is considered responsible for tooth loss, nutritional compromise, low self-esteem and a poorer quality of life. The researchers highlight the importance of periodontics in medical practice, directly relating it to systemic pathologies such as heart disease, diabetes mellitus, respiratory infections, premature birth and low birth weight. Considering that PE is an infection that constitutes a risk factor for the development of severe systemic pathologies that compromise the life of the patient, we set out to study the degree of qualified knowledge that patients who attend the dental consultation on periodontal health possess, its relationship with systemic health and quality of life. This research will provide the opportunity to evaluate the information of the population of the member countries of the Ibero-American Federation of Periodontics (FIPP) on the effect of periodontal diseases on general health. What constitutes the first step to carry out a proper planning of health policy. Health surveys allow identifying the relevant needs on which to build future action plans. The oral health goals for 2020, jointly established by the FDI, the WHO and the IADR in 2003, include worldwide application objectives, with the intention that each government analyze the local situation to establish real and concrete goals. Method: An observational clinical study will be carried out in 500 individuals, older than 21 years, with periodontal pathology, who attend spontaneously by dental consultation to public centers (UNCuyo Dental School) and private centers (Fundación Independencia Córdoba, headquarters of the Specialization Career in UNCuyo Periodontics) of member countries of the FIPP (Argentina, Chile and Uruguay). All patients will be invited to answer the structured questionnaire on periodontal medicine, based on WHO Oral Health Surveys; Geneva 1997 A questionnaire was designed consisting of 3 sections, which include socio-demographic data, risk factors, lifestyle habits and knowledge about periodontal disease and its impact on general health.
