Sumario:Achieving the growth of a country is one of the main objectives of any government. However, even when it is reached; within countries, growth is different for different regions. The Argentine experience does not escape this reality; verifying divergent performances between the provinces. Given this evidence; the main objective of this work was to investigate the sources of disparity of the provincial economies in Argentina; since the loss of relative participation of some Argentine provinces in the total national GDP worries the political authorities and the forces that make up the social capital. Using the neoclassical growth models as a theoretical framework, the existence of β-convergence among Argentine provinces is investigated, according to which the poorest provinces would grow at higher rates than the richest ones. To test this hypothesis, an econometric analysis was performed for the period 1991-2017, verifying compliance with “β-convergence”, whereby the relatively poorer provinces grew at higher rates than the richer ones; but that there is a “conditioning” arising from demographic characteristics (long-term growth rate of the population), from investment in human capital and from the expansion of the state.
