Sumario:Faculty performance evaluation was established in Argentina in the 1990s and at the National University of Cuyo in 1993. Article 68 of the National University of Cuyo’s bylaws sets forth that evaluation of faculty performance shall be based, among other things, on alumni surveys. Different studies on the application of these surveys have been carried out in Latin American countries, many a times as the only means to assess faculty competence. A thorough analysis of this instrument in terms of design and adaptation to the type of student and teaching practice, timeliness and processing has not been carried out at the National University of Cuyo. The objective of this paper is to propose a comprehensive evaluation design that meets the necessary validity and reliability requirements. The main hypothesis in this study is that current surveys do not assess teaching quality. Current indicator dimensions and systems will be identified and timeliness and adequate survey processing will be assessed. The information obtained and the opinion of system actors, faculty and alumni will be used to devise a comprehensive evaluation design. We expect to produce a model that includes the concepts of validity and reliability to evaluate faculty performance to be used by all academic units of the National University of Cuyo.
