Sumario:New paradigm for some, or simple political slogan for other media, the concept of sustainable development raises contradictory reactions in the scientific world. There are significant differences in the approach to sustainable development among the representatives of natural sciences and the humanities. The nomadic nature of the concept (Stengers, 1987) of sustainable development is seen by some researchers in geography as a true tara genetics, while others think on the contrary that may serve as a lever to renew the geographic approach to major contemporary problems. For research in geography, what attitude should be adopted? The sustainable development concept as a nomad, you can become an effective and innovative? Or semantic uncertainty leads inexorably to a wandering of ideas? The central objective of this discussion is to try to put the concept of sustainable development into the orbit of geographic thought, in a comparative perspective with neighboring disciplines and questioning turn their interest for research in our field discipline. This requires first and unreservedly to the problems posed by this concept: Is there nomadism concept of sustainable development as a kind of original sin it became an ineffective tool for geography? Secondly, to demystify the seeming novelty of the concept should consider what their affiliations with geography and other disciplines.
