Sumario:A plea in favor of the classic concept of beauty and against the post-modern conception of the fact that everything can be art and everyone can be an artist. There is an attempt to rescue the aesthetic conception contained in the works of the Frankfurt School, especially those of Theodor W. Adorno and Herbert Marcuse: art as faithfulness to a pledge for happiness. The critical and anticipatory function of the great art is revived, and the presumably progressive and democratic character of contemporary art is questioned. The present-day elites, democratically legitimized, share the same aesthetic inclinations as those of the masses, but exerting a manipulative function in the configuration of everyday life.
