Sumario:A consideration of Andrés Bello’s work as a journalist, one of the XIXth century authors who held the illustrated and liberal values and ideas, derived from English and French thinkers from the beginning of the XIXth century. These ideas appear in his academic texts, and above all, in the newspapers for which he worked. Among his most important economic ideas, which generated “public opinion”, he highlights free initiative, private property and the search for an increase of wealth as a strategy for the progress of the countries. The social and economic background is analyzed, because it deals with ethical ideas and perspectives where morality, politics and law converge: their importance is remarkable when faced with a globalized world.
