Sumario:A study was carried out to know some characteristics related to the initial growth of Chysolaena flexuosa, a native Asteraceae of the Buenos Aires's "sierras". As it has colorful and beautiful flowers, it has a great ornamental potential value. Seeds from C. flexuosa where collected from "Sierra La Barrosa" (Balcarce) and used in this experiment, where the evolution of specimens was analyzed in a greenhouse during a season. C. flexuosa reproductive stage started at spring and finished at the beginning of autumn. In all the cases, during the middle stage, the inflorescences of the plants showed heads with violet flowers and heads with fruits (achene) at the same time. At the beginning of autumn all the plants had only heads with achenes showing its white pappus, situation that gives the plants another interesting attribute because their inflorescences remain attractive even during the fructification stage so they can be used for make dried floral arrangements. Because of the rusticity and beauty of this specie from spring to autumn, C. flexuosa is presented as a promising specie for obtain ornamental cultivars to use as a specimen, in containers, in masses or as cut material for bouquets.
