Sumario:Bernardo de Balbuena’s piece of work “EL Bernardo o Victoria de Roncevalles”, published in 1624 but composed some years before, marks the end of the Mannerism and the beginning of the classical baroque. At that age, the topics of the Italian romanzo were well known, that’s why the author combines the language and fantastic fables and recreates this outstanding epic poem from existing materials, with more freedom. Mannerist aspects are observed in his work, understanding Mannerism as an unreal style of that era, non impressionist; but with surprising ornamental features such as the finesse of flowery images , the movement dynamism and torsion, the fantasy supremacy and the hidden issue under an extraordinary ornamentation rich in gemstones, flowers, fairies, palaces, magic and fantastical trips
