| Sumario: | Arid areas and especially areas with no irrigation, have been marginalized due to the lack of resources and settlement. The Lavalle district in the Mendoza province, which has such characteristics, contains a pecular population dinamic which has increased its marginalization. This paper analyses the evolution of external and internal migration within Lavalle during the period 1980-1991 using indirect methods of assessment. It outlines the character and magnitude of the migratory flows and points to the factors behind the inmigration to and emigration from the area in order to show that the migratory movements alter the structures of the land units from wich they area produced. |
