Sumario:This work analyses the characteristics of Spartan women in antiquity. According to several sources they enjoyed a certain freedom and autonomy, they were property owners and showed their own ideas about different State manifestations. This was not common among greek women. Aristotle accused them of being a negative element for the correct organization of the State; besides, men tended to let themselves be dominated by women. There is perhaps a historian’s exagerated opinion that defines themas the happiest women in history. But it is without doubt that the life of Spartan women colours a history in which women are omitted. The attitude of Spartan women would show that they possessed capacities to think and act.
