Sumario: | This paper presents the archaeological material recovered in the excavation of the site La Angostura 1. The site is a large rockshelter located on the eastern slope of the sierras of San Luis, in an area connected to the high-altitude pampas. The material includes highly-fragmented faunal remains with an MNI of nine camelids and three cervids. The faunal remains have diverse evidence of human processing. There were also numerous projectile points and lithic preforms, a high frequency of bone artifacts, and ceramics. We propose that La Angostura 1 was a residential site in which various activities were carried out. It was occupied repeatedly during the late Holocene by groups whose subsistence was based mainly on the hunting highlyranked prey and supplemented with smaller species and plant resources. |
