Sumario:This article proposes a discussion about the trajectory of the anthropological and archaeological thought and its discussions about the materials and the objects throughout the XX century. From inquiries such as: How were these approaches built? How were the objects and their performances thought in each of the different theoretical currents of archaeology? My proposal is to present a narrative, a history of the itineraries, of the trajectory of a Maya ceremonial textile from the site of Tikal, Guatemala, which I called Pix Mutal. With this history, my goal is to perceive how the treatment received by this object has been done in each of the main currents and theoretical approaches present in the anthropology and archaeology. Finally, I will discuss the importance of the new material and ontological approaches for a recovery of the leading role of this great material world that has always been present in the human and non-human societies at different times.
