Sumario:Here we present the results of a project at the site El Coyparcito site. El Coyparcito is an Inka stronghold located in Antofagasta de la Sierra (Catamarca) that was selected by the community as one of the local tourist attractions. Highlighting the site’s heritage value made it possible to the social benefits of our research. This steered our academic research towards archaeological engagement with the people living in the region. Hence the approaches we adopted not only responded to the community’s requests, but also promoted the conservation and sustainable use of local archaeological heritage. In turn, this led to an understanding that conservation must root itself within interdisciplinary management practices that account for non-archaeological knowledge, while guaranteeing the conditions that legitimize this knowledge.
