Sumario:The extraction of bivalve molluscs in the Muros-Noia estuary (Galicia) has been an activity with a strong impact on the configuration, articulation, and humanizing of the maritime landscape of this region, both in the past and in the present, despite being underrecognized. This article is based on ethnographic fieldwork carried out at the request of the fishing cooperatives in the estuary, which included identifying, documenting, researching, and highlighting the heritage value of shellfish gathering. This article is a result of this work. We will address links between shellfish gathering, the concept of cultural landscape, the frequency of women shellfish gatherers, local ecological knowledge, and traditional fishing in the production of cultural landscape. Their professionalization, far from constituting a threat, represents a guarantee of environmental, social, and economic sustainability and, therefore, of safeguarding the cultural landscape of the estuary.
