Sumario:The use of information derived from the analysis of faunal assemblages to discuss a variety of zooarchaeological problems (i.e., economic, symbolic, paleoecological), depends crucially on the evaluation of impacts from: a) biostratinomic and diagenetic processes that produce differential bone destruction and b) sampling problems that introduce biases in the representation profiles of skeletal parts of a given taxon. In general, these evaluations are carried out individually, on a case-by-case basis or by comparing cases, without using a standard external reference (i.e., a baseline). Using such reference or baseline makes it possible to measure the degree to which skeletal part profiles agree with or deviate from a specific expectation. The aim of this paper is to present an analytic method based on the use of different baselines, with the goal of evaluating the meaning of multiple profiles of anatomical parts of guanaco (Lama guanicoe) from archaeological sites of Late Holocene age from the southeastern Pampean Region.
