Hernández captured in scientific conferences to the children as part of his interest in promoting children's reading. The relevance is found both in the scarce historical research on the work of professor Hernández and the small number of studies on the scientific popularization directed at children during the mexican nineteenth century. The methodology is based on the analysis of the lectures from the social history of science, by valuing them as part of the mexican scientific culture aimed at popularizing specialized knowledge at the end of the Porfiriato. The history of the mexican scientific popularization in the Porfiriato is a subject with few studies despite the large number of books, magazines, brochures, among other sources; and in Hernández's written work, especially the books, it is well known that the popularization of science was part of his intellectual project in terms of educating children inside and outside the classroom, as well as generating pedagogical materials for parents and teachers to homeschool. El objetivo del artículo es abordar los temas y las estrategias vulgarizadoras de la ciencia que el profesor mexicano Julio S. Hernández plasmó en las conferencias científicas a los niños como parte de su interés por fomentar la lectura infantil. La relevancia se encuentra tanto en la escasa investigación histórica sobre la obra del profesor Hernández como los estudios sobre la vulgarización científica dirigida a los niños durante el siglo XIX mexicano. La metodología se basa en la presentación de las conferencias desde la historia social de la ciencia, al ubicarlas como parte de la cultura científica mexicana orientada a vulgarizar conocimientos especializados a finales del Porfiriato. Este es un tema con escasos estudios a pesar de la amplia cantidad de libros, revistas, folletos, entre otras fuentes; y en la obra de Hernández, sobre todo los libros, es notorio que la vulgarización de la ciencia fue parte de su proyecto intelectual en cuanto a educar a los niños dentro y fuera del aula, así como generar materiales pedagógicos destinados a los padres y profesores para que educaran a los infantes en el hogar.
