The capital city of the province of Mendoza, located in the center-west of Argentina sheltered, in a framework of tourism promotion policy, a "modern" leisure facility, a group of buildings consisting of Hotel, Theater and Casino. In this context, the article explores the problem of gambling and the material realization of this Casino, the first state-owned in the history of the province. Through a review of periodical publications, government memoirs and parliamentary discussions, this work seeks to investigate the difficulties and drifts involved in gambling regulation, along with material result of these policies, by delving into architectural features of the Casino building. La modernización operante en Argentina entre fines del siglo XIX y principios del XX, trajo aparejada una serie de cambios que impactaron no sólo en la materialización de los entornos construidos, sino también en las prácticas sociales. La ciudad capital de la provincia de Mendoza, situada en el centro-oeste del país acogió, al abrigo de una política de fomento turístico, un “moderno” equipamiento de ocio, conjunto constituido por Hotel, Teatro y Casino. En este contexto, el artículo aborda el problema de los juegos de azar y la concreción material de este Casino, el primero de gestión estatal en la historia de la provincia. Por medio de una revisión de publicaciones periódicas, labores de gobierno y discusiones parlamentarias, se busca indagar en las dificultades y derivas que implicó la regulación del juego, junto con la resultante material de esas políticas, profundizando en las cualidades arquitectónicas del edificio del Casino.
