The global fruit market has been growing significantly in recent years; new countries and new products have been incorporated, such as organic and frozen fruit, which have been imposed in recent years as a result of changes in consumer preferences. Thus, differentiated foods become more relevant and consumption behaviors are modified by communication and marketing. The natural advantages for production begin to be neglected, giving way to competitive ones, due to the greater use of technology.Given this brief introduction, the aim of this paper is to analyze some aspects related to the competitiveness of the pome fruit producer sector in Argentina during the 2000–2018 period, specifically pears and apples. For this, competitiveness indicators will be used. El mercado mundial de frutas se caracteriza por tener una oferta muy competitiva, ya que participan frutas de todos los orígenes y diversos tipos. Esto, a su vez, es lo que determina que el desempeño comercial se encuentre en un proceso de constante mejora. El mercado frutícola global ha venido creciendo significativamente en los últimos años; a él se han ido incorporando nuevos países y nuevos productos, tales como la fruta orgánica y la congelada, las que se han ido imponiendo en los últimos años como consecuencia de los cambios en las preferencias de los consumidores. Así, los alimentos diferenciados cobran mayor relevancia y las conductas de consumo se modifican por la comunicación y el marketing. Se comienzan a dejar de lado las ventajas naturales para la producción, dando paso a las competitivas, debido al mayor uso de la tecnología. Dada esta breve introducción, el objetivo principal de este trabajo consiste en analizar algunos aspectos relacionados con la competitividad del sector productor de frutas de pepita en Argentina durante el período 2000–2018, específicamente de peras y manzanas. Para ello se emplearán indicadores de competitividad.
