| Sumario: | The majority of rural areas suffer the consequences of the emigration of their young population. This article discusses employment opportunities in rural areas, taking into account the expectations and needs of the youth itself. It also analyzes the potential of non-agricultural rural activities for a diversification of rural economies. After introducing the topic on a continental level, a case study will be carried out in the department of Malargüe (Mendoza, Argentina). The objective is to discuss public policies aimed at reducing rural exodus and improving the chances of young people staying in the countryside. |
