If we focus on the second half of the 19th century, the time of its institutional foundation simultaneously with the constitution of the Argentine nation-state, we find diverse documents that somehow facilitate following the course of a complex history. Among those documents, educational publications stand out as valuable analytical materials. As usual in every analyzes, there are methodological risks related to the tensions between archives and theoretical categories and different keys to reading them. Very often the documents are pre-understood in theoretical repertoires that offer interpretations that become dominant in the field of educational research. This article proposes some exercises with documentary records taken from the newspaper published in the 19th century, El Instructor Popular, in numbers published by the pedagogue Carlos Vergara as editor. We aim to show how a kind of archive organization, in levels, movements or symbolic operations, dynamically invents figures for subjectivity, reconfigure temporalities and spatialities, and design practices that seem to be more persistent than expected. El sistema educativo argentino cuenta en la actualidad con una interesante literatura que busca historizarlo y analizarlo de forma crítica. Si nos situamos en el siglo XIX como tiempo de su fundación institucional en forma simultánea con la constitución del estado-nación argentino, encontramos documentos diversos que de algún modo, facilitan seguir el decurso de una historia compleja. Entre esos documentos, las publicaciones educativas se recortan como valiosos materiales de análisis. Como en todo análisis hay riesgos metodológicos vinculados con las tensiones entre archivos y categorías teóricas y diferentes claves de lectura de los mismos. Muchas veces los documentos quedan precomprendidos en repertorios teóricos que ofrecen interpretaciones que se vuelven dominantes en el campo de las investigaciones educativas. Este artículo propone ejercicios de análisis con registros documentales tomados del periódico editado en el siglo XIX, El Instructor popular, en los números publicados bajo la coordinación del pedagogo mendocino Carlos Vergara. El objetivo es mostrar la organización del archivo desde diferentes niveles, movimientos u operaciones simbólicas que de forma dinámica inventan subjetividades, reconfiguran temporalidades y espacialidades y diseñan prácticas que parecen ser más persistentes de lo esperado.
