Sumario:Through a number of cultural accounts that manage the experiences of cartoneros in the argentine postcrisis, more specifically, works by artists such as Matthijs de Bruijne, Liliana Maresca as well as thecollective Escombros, Eloisa Cartonera Publishing project and the writing of Washington Cucurto and Danilo Samoilovich, thisarticlesdiscussesthefollowingquestions: How does argentine culture construct, produce and account for this subaltern, societal residue emblematically called cartonero? What kind of voice and agency is given to economically deprived and politically neglected cartoneros through cultural practices? Do these practices allow them to gain visibility and become social and political agents or do they only serve to contribute to the sense of social fulfillment of the consumer? How is the cartonero experience packaged for global as well as local consumption? What kind of representational discourse has been adopted in accounting for the poor in post 2001 Argentina?
