Culture and politics in the Cuban race debate Romay Guerra, Zuleica Racismo Discurso Debate Cultura Política Racism Speech Culture Politics Debate The history of a society is, in some measure, that of its differed or unconcluded debates because the topics that are object of silence, forgetfulness, or uncomfortable negotiation among parts that are recognized different, many times reflects the obstacles that the individual subjects and communities must save to be integrated. The racial question is like a hank of complicated relations that mark transversely the history of Cuba. From there this essay seeks to value how much the culture and the politics have influenced in the Cuban debate on the racial problem, highlighting the confluences and divergences of the speeches that, along the time, have built different layers, groups and sectors of the Cuban society. La historia de una sociedad es, en alguna medida, la de sus debates diferidos o inconclusos porque los temas que son objeto de silencio, olvido, o negociación incómoda entre partes que se reconocen diferentes, muchas veces reflejan los obstáculos que los sujetos individuales y colectivos han de salvar para integrarse. La cuestión racial es como una madeja de complicadas relaciones que marcan transversalmente la historia de Cuba. De ahí que este ensayo pretenda valorar cuánto han influido la cultura y la política en el debate cubano sobre la problemática racial, destacando las confluencias y divergencias de los discursos que, a lo largo del tiempo, han construido diferentes capas, grupos y sectores de la sociedad cubana.
