When we think about the current Latin American context, some doubts arise about the ability to swallow and apprehend. The importance of communication technologies in today's world and its impact on cultural consumption are added to the lack of assertive cultural policies by some governments in the region. Of course, this framework is aggravated by the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Partiendo del análisis de la metáfora del Abaporu y su significado dentro del Manifiesto Caníbal de Oswald de Andrade, es que nos permite hacer un recorrido sobre diferentes momentos de la cultura Latinoamericana y las diferentes estrategias para su desarrollo en todas las áreas de la expresión. Cuando pensamos el actual contexto latinoamericano surgen algunas dudas sobre la capacidad de deglución y aprehensión. La importancia de las tecnologías de comunicación en el mundo actual y su impacto en los consumos culturales, se le suman las políticas culturales poco asertivas por parte de algunos gobiernos de la región. Claro este marco se agrava con la crisis provocada por la pandemia de Covid-19.
