Sumario:Aim: To analyze the knowledge of the population about periodontal disease, periodontal medicine and quality of life.Materials and method: A multicenter cross-sectional observational study was performed. The sample included 788 subjects from Mendoza and Cordoba (Argentina) who answered a structured and validated questionnaire. Results: The population knows the pathologies of the oral cavity. Tobacco is recognized as an associated risk factor, 47% said they were unaware of the association with alcohol and 52% did not consider being overweight associated with periodontitis.58% do not know the relationship between PD and diabetes mellitus, the influence on heart disease, and the risk for pathologies related to pregnancy. 80% value their oral health. Conclusions: The main clinical signs of gingival pathologies are recognized. There is a lack of knowledge of the relationship between periodontal disease and systemic conditions. Oral health education should be an important goal in public health.
