Sumario:In the search for a holistic vision in the evaluation of vulnerability, particularly related to seismic hazards on an urban scale, there are renewed concerns that it should include physical and social variables, and be incorporated into public policies for territorial planning. In this context, the article proposes to address a methodology for multi-criteria assessment of urban vulnerability in seismic areas. It is based on the contributions of the hierarchical analysis (AHP). At the same time, numerical equivalents of weighting are used that allow a subjective evaluation of the variables of analysis that include social, physical and functional components in existing situations. It is concluded that the construction of the index represents a contribution in terms of a methodological instrument for the holistic evaluation of the physical-social vulnerability of populations under seismic risk, being an input for the local and regional urban planning of those territories that could be affected.
