He decided to go into exile in Rome in 1957, moving away from the Peronist regime and adopting the Italian language to compose his work. This article looks at some of the self-translation strategies he used in his book El caos, part of which was written originally in Spanish but recreated, enlarged and first published in Italian (Bompiani, 1960), and finally retranslated by Wilcock to both languages around 1974 under the titles of Parsifal: I racconti del caos (Milan, Adelphi) and El caos (Buenos Aires, Sudamericana). Wilcock’s continuous correction and retranslation of this work provides an entry into the interpretation of his late narrative. From this perspective, his poetics can be seen as a conjunction of his double skill as a writer-translator. This aspect, which has not yet been sufficiently studied, makes him as an exceptional reference for Transcultural Studies.
