In other words, it is an aesthetic phenomenon that covers various representations and all of them answer to the same challenge: the need for human self-objectification. On this occasion we are going to contemplate the literary dimension of the phenomenon, without renouncing to consider the plastic dimension. El autorretrato es un género que asociamos con la pintura, pero quisiera exponer la idea de que es un fenómeno que alcanza a otras artes y quizá esté vinculado con otras expresiones artísticas que no nos resultan tan evidentes. En otras palabras, se trata de un fenómeno estético que reviste varias representaciones y todas ellas responden al mismo reto: la necesidad de autoobjetivación humana. En esta ocasión vamos a contemplar la dimensión literaria del fenómeno, sin renunciar a considerar la dimensión plástica.
