Sumario:Recently, five fundamental works, some older and some more recent, were republished in Rome. They accredit and document both the beginning and the later development of the devotion to Our Lady of Luján, as well as its close relationship to the history of Argentina. These works are: 1) Fray Pedro Nolasco de Santa María’s account, the first written document of the early events in Luján (1737); 2) the work of Fathers Oliver and Maqueda, the first printed document of the story of Luján (1812); 3) a complete history, published by Father Georges-Marie Salvaire, of the origins and spread of devotion to Our Lady, as well as of its traditions and its relationship with fundamental episodes and personages in the history of the nation (1885); 4) a magisterial conference by the historian Raúl Molina, who, using ancient records, demonstrated the historical authenticity of the personages of the early history (1967); 5) a monumental and fully documented work on the first one hundred years of this history (1630-1730), written by Msgr. Juan Antonio Presas, the leading scholar of Luján (1980). The article presents each one of these works, their historical importance, their authors, and their recent publication in a collection.
