Sumario:The aim of our research is to contribute to the study of the overt and covert sources that shaped the grammatical doctrine of the Royal Spanish Academy; specially, the influence of Nebrija, Jiménez Patón, Correas, Salvá, Bello, Benot and Cejador y Frauca. We will pay particular attention to the concept of syntax defended by the institution and to the treatment of hypotaxis and parataxis in a corpus made up of five editions of its Grammar: those published on 1771, 1796, 1854, 1870 and 1917. Previously, we will investigate the context in which all of them are elaborated and divulged and we will explain how the Academy configures its Grammar all along those years. The methodological instrument that we will use for this purpose is the theory of canon in its grammatical aspect. Thus, we conceive our work as a contribution in the field of HL, a growing discipline that combines the historical and historiographical aspects of the linguistic study.
