Sumario:In this article we analyze the experiences and strategies of popular class adult males living ina low-income neighborhood in the northern Buenos Aires metropolitan area in face of acts ofinsecurity, violence and stigmatization of the neighborhood they live in. We account for theperceptions of the interviewees about the acts of violence and insecurity that take place in theproximity space, the strategies they employ in the face of these and the stigma that developsin certain areas of the neighborhood. We discuss and hypothesize about the consequences oftheir perceptions and strategies for their health in a broad sense. Finally, we show how the strategies they develop have repercussions on their health through greater isolation, greater exposure to risks and the escalation of violence in the neighborhood.
