Sumario:In this article the proposal is to discuss the propagated sexual freedom in the practice of swinging. For this, an ethnography was carried out in two swinging houses in the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The main contributions of this work are twofold: first, to humanize research practices, in which ethnography plays a central role, as it allows immersion in the context and contact with people to show researchers that their role is less to judge other people's lives than to try to understand them within human differences. And second, as for the freedom proclaimed, it is not as full as proposed, being different between women, who submit themselves to the situation, reproducing what they live in society, and men, who direct and control the whole process, as allowed to them by the patriarchy under which we all live.
