Sumario:During the 1990s, the neoliberal model changed the patterns of the economic structure and its social base. Instead of industrial production, fanancial speculation becam the organizationaI principle of thee economy. Although at the begining of the decade and between 1996-1997, the economy had high level of growth, this produced little impact on the industrial activities and deteriorated the Iabor market indicators. The structure of the economy could not generate employment. Several studies try the hypothesis of a process of fragmentation/heterogeneity and segmentation of the occupational structure as a consequence of these economic and social policies which affected different occupational groups producing gender differentials. In the empirical and theoretical context, this research advanced in the knowledge of the characteristics of this phenomenon in Mendoza, with the aim of analyzing the occupational structure of the labor market during 1992-2002, considerating the different phase of the economic cycle. Also, describing the distinctive forms according to gender and related with labor market entering conditions, labor opportunities and how the demand leads to the fragmentation of the labor force.
