Sumario:Ecosystems provide necessary environmental services which are needed to satisfy the material and non-material needs of human beings. They contribute to the economic growth and other intangible aspects which create human wellbeing. The flow of goods and services is vital for the economy. The rural ecosystems satisfy human needs and generate wellbeing causing a direct impact on the quality of life for the people. In Argentina there are different conflicts which differ in origin such as social, economic and ecological which are closely related. It is not accurate to separate society from nature and to treat their problems individually. Due to this, specialists on the field resort to the assessment of the different ecosystems and their environment as a preventive mean before possible threats which alter their function and structure of the rural ecosystems. This has to be done through planned strategies and sustainable politics for the treatment and correction of this situation. Mendoza is nowadays considered a highly touristic destination. Taking into account different tourist activities such as the Classical Music Festival through the different wineries called “Los Caminos del Vino” and the National Harvest Festival. Such distinctive activities create provincial and their peoples‟ identity. In the last decade, Maipu Department has suffered a notorious loss of fertile lands which were aimed for housing projects. The typical problems that affect the cities directly have reached the rural settings. The unsafeness reached in these areas is a clear example of this situation. The selection of the area for sampling was chosen based on the results of the urban expansion census in 2001 and 2010 in representative agricultural areas in Mendoza. It was recorded that Maipu Department had an increase in its population of 93% making the department in Greater Mendoza with the highest recorded growth rate in the last decade. It was taken into consideration the fact that Maipu is one of the most important departments owing to its agricultural value in the province, known as the birthplace of wine and olive trees. It has been considered as a reference for its inhabitants‟ opinion to rate the urban development and the loss of environmental services in agricultural areas in the whole province of Mendoza. The following research is focused on the provision of environmental services in the rural ecosystems in the province of Mendoza in Argentina. It is studied from the social value of the environmental and social benefits that the Maipucinian society grants to its rural settings in Mendoza. It is done through surveys based on a contingent assessment method in which the obtained data is used for the analysis of the social value of ecosystem services, without considering the analysis of the economic assessment. The obtained results prove that there is a preference in the population of the Maipu Department towards the natural and agricultural areas. They benefit and feel attracted by the sense of wellbeing, providing them with social value and supremacy in this prestigious area. However, it is perceived that they are being affected by typical problems of an urbanized environment such as visual and noise pollution as for the loss of scenic beauty and the Mendozcinean culture in itself. The obtained data from these surveys are available to be used as a tool for decision making and for the correct application of the 8051 Act of Land Management and Land Use in Mendoza.
