The present work asks about the circulation dynamics of the visual arts in Mendoza during the last military dictatorship. Specifically we ask about the particular dynamics of circulation in times of extreme political polarization, restriction of freedoms and banning of all party activity.
To begin with, the censorship of the military government was one of the most evident determinants in the particular configuration that acquired the circulation map of the period. We refer to the cultural repression that is perceived in the difficulty that many artists found to exhibit their work in museums of the province and to apply to the most representative salons and contests of the period, as recorded in periodic sources and confirmed in interviews with active producers in the 70s.
However, there were also positive determinants, such as the ideology of the left that compromised intellectuals of the period, within which we find Mendoza artists. In this sense we understand the exhibitions held in union headquarters or in alliance with different unions, which argued that "art should be at the service of the people and their liberation" (Diario Mendoza, June 17, 1973). |

El presente trabajo se pregunta por las dinámicas de circulación de las artes visuales en Mendoza durante la última dictadura militar. Puntualmente nos preguntamos por las dinámicas particulares de circulación en tiempos de suma polarización política, restricción de libertades y proscripción de toda actividad partidaria. Por empezar, la censura del gobierno militar fue uno de los determinantes más evidentes en la particular configuración que adquiere el mapa de la circulación del período. Nos referimos a la represión cultural que se percibe en la dificultad que muchos artistas encontraron para exponer en museos de la provincia y al postularse a los salones y certámenes más representativos del período, según consta en fuentes periódicas y fue confirmado en entrevistas a los productores activos en los ’70. Sin embargo, hubo también determinantes positivos, como ser el ideario de izquierda que comprometió a intelectuales del período, dentro de los cuales se encontraban también los artistas mendocinos. En este sentido entendemos las exposiciones realizadas en sedes sindicales o en alianza con gremios y sindicatos, que pugnaban porque "el arte debe estar al servicio del pueblo y de su liberación" (Diario Mendoza, 17 de junio de 1973). O presente trabalho pergunta-se pelas dinâmicas de circulação das artes visuais em Mendoza durante a última ditadura militar. Pontualmente perguntamo-nos pelas dinâmicas particulares de circulação em tempos de extrema polarização política, restrição de liberdades e proscrição de toda atividade partidária. Para começar, a censura do governo militar foi um dos determinantes mais evidentes na particular configuração que adquire o mapa da circulação do período.
