In this way, an attempt will be made to recognize, in broad strokes, the epistemological challenges and obstacles involved in the study of childhoods configured in the global south, by means of Sousa Santos' (2006) proposal. At the same time, we will consider the fact that this academic vacancy derived from the recent emergence of this discipline could represent an opening to the possibility of developing, from the roots, a sociology from and for childhoods in Latin America. El presente escrito presenta como principal objetivo indagar y profundizar acerca de las posibilidades de desarrollo de la Sociología de la Infancia como espacio en emergencia reciente a nivel global desde América Latina como espacio específico de producción de conocimiento. De este modo, se dará lugar a un intento por reconocer a grandes rasgos, los desafíos y obstáculos epistemológicos que supone el estudio de las infancias configuradas en el sur global, mediante la propuesta de Sousa Santos (2006). A su vez, se atenderá el hecho de que esta vacancia académica derivada de la reciente emergencia de esta disciplina podría representar una apertura a la posibilidad de desarrollar desde la raíz, una sociología desde y para las infancias en América Latina.
