Sumario:Flavonoids are poliphenolic compounds and they are the responsible of the colour of dark grapes and of many other fruits as blueherries, strawberries, bilberries. They have antioxidant effecects. Oxidative tissue damage and apoptosis can be attenuated by anthocyanins, a group of flavonoids, in isolated cells cultured from human oral tissues. In this report we describe the pharmacologic bases for the use of anthocyanins in those oral diseases where oxidative stress has been shown to have a pathogenic roll.
