Sumario: | By broadening the scope of the notion of empeiría, with the step that goes from the opinions to the established opinions (éndoxa), Aristotle gives argumentative substance to rhetoric, which makes it possible to give form to an authentic theory of argumentation able to be applied to contexts in which rhetoric is used. Failing such an attempt, the rhetoric could not be the faculty of theorizing what is appropriate in each case to convince, as defined by the Stagirite, and would continue to be, in his opinion, a pre-technical condition dominated by chance or, in the best of cases, by a custom born of our way of being. |
